Cannon Valley Trail
One of the most popular trails in Minnesota follows the Cannon River from Cannon Falls to Red Wing, taking in panoramic overlooks and intimate river bottoms.

Welch Village, near the center of the trail, is the most popular access point. The trail drops at a steady rate from west to east. The grade isn’t steep, but you will notice the difference when you turn around. For an unusual experience, try riding the trail after dark under a full moon. We spent the week of the 4th up on the North Shore. The Gitchi Gami got a brand new extension north up and over the Onion River. It doesn’t quite reach the Lutsen Resort yet, but they have bridge with no trail connection over the Poplar River and are clearly headed that way. I took some pictures and loaded them to Flickr, have a look.
